After some delay (causes, amongst others: difference of opinion as to how much the wing root protruded the bottom of the flat rack (one (1) inch too wide versus 20(!)), what shipper could/would accept the oversized cargo and to which harbor would the vessel set sail, shipper found but not happy with the lashing/securing of the wings, arrival of truck driver in the harbor of Antwerp just passed the assigned pick-up “slot time” (I’ve learned Slot Times are not unique to just Aviation), new slot time did not fit with the Work and Rest Time Regulation Limitations, day delay caused by that did not match the schedule of our Aircraft Maintenance Technician), a delivery time was pinned at Monday morning, April 24th 2023, 10:00 CET.
Our contact at DHL, Marco Druijven, rang us at 09:24 CET, while we were still in the e-Golf getting towards Teuge Airfield, to inform us the truck had just arrived at Teuge Airfield. He would now inform the Customs (there is a Customs Office in Apeldoorn, not too far away from Teuge International Airfield). Generally speaking, it takes about half an hour to establish the amount of VAT that needs to be paid and to clear “the package” for unpacking. But this time it took until 11:00 CET, as it turned out the Customs Clerks had their Corporate First Aid Assistance Refresher Course (very useful course, needs to be done at some time).
But at 11:00, we could start removing all that shrink wrap foil to see what’s underneath.
